Author Greg Muttitt to visit Reigate to give talk about Iraq oil & Libya conflict

Writer Greg Muttitt, author of Fuel on the Fire: Oil and Politics in Occupied Iraq, will be in Reigate on Wednesday October 26 to give a public talk about what is happening to the oil in Iraq and to predict what will now happen in Libya.

Muttitt says: “Oil lies at the heart of Iraqi politics. Yet in the eight years since the bombs began to fall on Baghdad it has been a taboo subject.”

At the meeting, at the Woodhatch Centre in Whitebeam Drive at 8pm, he will tell how the occupation powers sought to privatise Iraq’s oil, their push for an Iraqi oil law and the campaign against them by Iraqi trade unions and civil society. His talk will help the audience understand what will be the impact of Iraq signing contracts with BP, Shell, ExxonMobil etc; and what the Iraq war tells us about events in Libya and the broader Middle East.

The 8pm event, organised by Redhill & Reigate branch of the Stop the War Coalition, is free to attend.

Mr Muttitt’s book has been described by Naomi Klein as “nothing short of a secret history of the [Iraq] war”.

Greg Muttitt’s website is http://www.fuelonthefire.com and he tweets at @FuelOnTheFire
